Solid construction

I ordered this 24" heavy-duty broom because I needed to purchase my first large push broom. I greatly prefer to buy things made in the USA because they tend to be higher quality than those made cheaply in some other part of the world. Indeed, even the climate implications of buying once instead of buying over and aver again are reasons enough to go with a quality product.

This broom has bristles about 3" in length on the business end, meaning that it will be able to brush into deep cracks with ease. The bristles are a thick and tough nylan, as you'd expect from a heavy-duty broom.

Perhaps the most important part of any broom is the strength of the connection between the handle and the head. We've all used brooms that have a loose handle that easily spins off when lifting the broom. This broom will have no such problem in its future. Let me explain.

First, the handle has a metal sheath on the end that screws into the head. The sheath is then press-fit and peened into the wooden handle, so the screwed sheath and the wood won't come apart. The wooden handle with its threaded metal sheath screws into the wooden head. I turn the handle into the head by hand, not overtightening. This connection is strong in the axial direction, meaning that it won't allow the handle to pull straight out of the broom head, however, for lateral forces (side to side), the broom's other connections guarantee that this broom is constructed for a lifetime of daily use.

The rest of the broom assembly required a socket or wrench in 11mm or 7/16". Either of these sizes will work on the bolts included with my broom. I would like to thank USA Broom for using hex-headed fasteners instead of Phillips screws because hex bolts are much stronger and easy to work with than Phillips screws! The bolts attach the left and right stabilizing arms to the head of the broom, and they also tighten the clamp around the neck of the handle. The bolts screw into the broom's head with a metal inset, meaning that the bolts anchor securely to the head with a metal-to-metal connection. This connection is part of what will make this broom last forever. The metal arms are also thicker than I imagined they would be--a nice touch for those times when kids like to play swords with their parents' broom! Finally, the two arms wrap around the neck of the handle with bolts and friction nuts. These nuts are the sort that don't come undone by themselves, I would recommend using a 11mm or 7/16" socket or wrench on each bolt and nut. I made the bolts and nuts on the neck tight enough to cause the arms to firmly grasp the neck of the handle so that it does not unscrew from the head. The clamp around the neck of the handle also has small openings that you can use to drill a through-hole and insert another bolt if you want, but I really don't think that would ever be necessary.

The only thing I wish USA Broom would do differently is to offer a kitchen-style broom with a dust pan. That would be a nice addition to their lineup, in my opinion.

AMAZING BROOM!

This broom is like the brooms we had in the US pre-nafta. It's a forever broom, fantastic quality. I wish everything was made this way. You will not regret purchasing from this great company.
